Shukla denied bail,court points finger at role of police,govt

Special Additional District and Sessions judge Rajendra Singh turned down the bail application moved on behalf of Shukla.

Former CMO A K Shukla was today denied bail by in NRHM funds embezzlement case by a local court which said that the accused could not have evaded arrest for so long without the patronage of the state government and police.

Looking at the facts and circumstances of the case,accused Shukla is not liable to be released on bail,the judge said.

The court observed that despite an FIR being lodged against Shukla in the case on April 7,he was arrested only on July 12 while the other accused,Deputy CMO Y S Sachan,was arrested much earlier.

This delay was not possible without the patronage of the state government and police,it said.

The case was lodged on April 7 in the local Wazirganj police station after the murder of CMO B.P Singh on April 2.

Under intense pressure,Mayawati government has recommended CBI probe into the case,as well in the murders of chief medical officers Vinod Kumar Arya and B P Singh and the mysterious death of Sachan in a jail here.
