A local court here today issued process against Lavasa Corporation in a criminal case filed by Maharashtra Pollution Control Board under the Environment Protection Act.
The Corporation is accused of not obtaining necessary clearances from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests before starting the construction work at its township project at Lavasa in Pune district.
Chief Judicial Magistrate N T Ghadge issued summons to nine Lavasa directors,including chairman of its holding company HCC,Ajit Gulabchand,and six officials. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for January 30.
Environment Ministry recently gave permission to first phase of the township project. Earlier,it had set a condition that state should take action against Lavasa,before the first phase could be given a clearance.
