Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has expressed his grief over the loss of 59 lives in flash floods near Leh and sanctioned an immediate relief of Rs 1 lakh to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured.
The money will be given from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
Singh has said: I am deeply shocked to learn of the loss of lives and devastation in
the flash floods caused by cloudburst in the Choglumsar area near Leh,Ladakh. I send my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families and wish those injured a speedy recovery. The Centre will do all that is possible to help the state government and the affected people in the rescue and relief operations, the PM said. An
amount of Rs 50,000 has been granted from the Prime Ministers National Relief Fund to those injured.
