As Maoists are preparing to observe ‘Kranti Diwas’ on Tuesday,Orissa government sounded alert in all districts with special instruction to those naxal hit,to avert any law and order problem,official sources said.
We have asked all the district collectors and SPs to remain alert in view of the Maoists’s Kranti Diwas and Independence Day celebration on August 15, Home Secretary U N Behera told reporters.
Maoists had been observing Kranti Diwas in the state since August 9,2001 as their leader Kranti Randev was gunned down by the police on this day. Besides Randev,another ultra was also killed when they launched attacks on two police stations (Kalimela and Motu) in Malkangiri district. Five security personnel were also killed in the encounter,police said.
As Randev was one of the top ranking members of the former PWG,the CPI(Maoist) observes his death anniversary every year on August 9.
The state government’s preventive measures were taken in response to certain intelligence reports which indicated that ultras could create problem.
The collectors had been asked to ensure that the normal life was not affected in any of the naxal hit districts due to Maoist’s observation of Kranti Diwas.
