By elections to the six constituencies,including four Assembly and two Lok Sabha,in Gujarat will be held on June 2,the Central Election Commission announced today.
Following the announcement,the model code of conduct was effected on districts of Porbandar and Banaskantha and four assembly seats,from Friday,said chief electoral officer Anita Karwal.
Election notification will be published on May 8 and from the same day to May 15 nomination forms can be filed. Nomination form scrutiny will be held on May 16 and forms can be withdrawn by May 18. Polling will be held on June 2 and counting on June 5.
Jetpur,Dhoraji,Limbdi and Morva Hadaf assembly seats and Porbandar and Banaskantha Lok Sabha seats will go to polls.
Jetpur and Dhoraji seats have been vacant after former Congress heavyweight Vitthal Radadia (Dhoraji),along with his son Jayesh (Jetpur) resigned as MLA to join the BJP after the winning seats for Congress in 2012 December elections. Whereas Limbdi seat was vacated by Congress leader Soma Patel to retain his Lok Sabha seat of Surendranagar. And Morva Hadaf’s newly elected Congress MLA Savita Khant died hours after result for last assembly election was announced on December 20.
Porbandar Lok Sabha seat was vacated by Vitthal Radadia when he won Dhoraji assembly seat,only again to resign from the same. Where as Banakantha MP Mukesh Gadhvi had passed away on March 1,calling for by-elections.
At present BJP has 115 and Congress 57 seats in total 182-member Gujarat Assembly.
