UP Chief Minister Mayawati on Monday termed as “unjust” Delhi government’s reported move to transfer Rs 750 crore of special component plan for SC/ST to Commonwealth Games and demanded that it be reverted.
“Utilising money meant for uplift of SC/ST sections of the society for Commonwealth Games is not justified in any manner and the fund should be utilised for the purpose it was allocated,” she said in a statement here.
The BSP supremo said that a large number of people belonging to SC/ST category resided in Delhi of which a sizeable section was still living below the poverty line.
“This decision reflects the anti-dalit mentality of the Congress government in Delhi,” Mayawati alleged.
The chief minister said any such move was in gross violation of norms laid down by the Planning Commission.
“As per the rules, funds allocated for the welfare of Sc/ST should be utilised for this purpose only and transferring it to another head is illegal,” she alleged.
Mayawati alleged that the decision was a clear indicator that Delhi government was not concerned about the welfare of dalits.
