Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitely has written a letter to Anna Hazare blaming the government for its failure to put the Jan Lokpal bill on the agenda of Rajya Sabha. Hazare, who is on an indefinite fast, said he had received the letter on Wednesday.

In the letter,Jaitely tried to dispel any misconception about the BJP’s role. “The select committee had cleared the Bill a year back and it should have been put before the Rajya Sabha. But the government had put the Bill before the cabinet,” the letter.

Jaitely had written that he had made his position about the Bill clear in public many a times. He also said that the select committee had made many amendments, which would make the Bill more strong.

However,Jaitely’s letter failed to pacify Hazare who said the BJP as an Opposition has failed to perform its role by not forcing the government to bring the legislation earlier. “I would be answering the letter on Thursday and I would ask him why the Opposition did not ask about the Lokpal Bill earlier,” he said.

Hazare charged the UPA government of cheating the people “as they had failed to list the Lokpal on the agenda of the Rajya Sabha.” The second day of Hazare’s indefinite fast saw thin crowd in the pandals in Ralegan Siddhi.

Hazare once again expressed his determination to continue with the agitation. “Two days before the Parliament session ends,I would call a meeting of my activists and then we would talk about our future course of action,” he said. Hazare said that,if need,be the present session of the Parliament could be extended for the passage of the Bill.
