In the wake of the arrest of middleman Guido Haschke in the AugustaWestland deal,BJP on Friday said it is ironical that Italy is more active in pursuing the scam despite facing the prospect of losing the contract while India is showing little interest.

The party also reiterated its demand that it should be probed as to who is being referred to in the scam documents as the ‘family’.

“It is surprising that the Italian government is active and has arrested Haschke but the Indian government is not showing interest in decodifying the AugustaWestland scam,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

Pointing out the irony,he said while Italy stands to lose the contract and the money but is still carrying on the probe,India is not doing enough though its taxpayers money is involved.

“The Italian government has given all documents and transcripts- running into 10,000 pages- to the court and also shared the names but our government and the CBI have not arrested the accused,” Javadekar said.

He further said the country which will lose economically is more sincere about the investigations but India, despite losing the money to corruption,is not interested in unravelling the truth.

“The mention of the family which received Rs 200 crore is an important aspect in the scam. Government of India is not at all interested in knowing who is the family. This government will go down in history as for the scam,by the scam and of the scam,” he said.
