Four minor tribal girls abducted from Jharkhand hostel,raped by 20 men

Reports said the men forced everyone at the school to switch off their cellphones.

Four minor tribal girls were reportedly abducted from their hostel in Litipara block of Pakur district and gangraped by a group of 10-15 men on Sunday night. While medical tests have confirmed rape,no arrests have been made so far.

The girls,aged between 12-14 years,belong to the Parhaiya tribe,which has been notified as a “primitive tribal group”. While they hail from Jamtara district,they were living in a hostel in the ECI Mission School campus in Jamjuri village in Litipara block,where they were doing a tailoring course.

According to reports,the men,suspected to be from surrounding villages in the area,went to the hostel at about 11:30 pm on Sunday. “About 12 men took the girls away and raped them,after locking the warden and other students inside. The girls returned to the hostel after about two hours,” said a police official,adding that all the accused are suspected to be over 18 years old.

When contacted,officials of the Evangelical Church of India in Chennai,which runs the matriculation school and hostel,said they were aware of the incident but did not have more details.

SP Y S Ramesh visited the area but could not be contacted. DIG Priya Dubey claimed to have no details of the incident.

While there are no reports of the men being armed,local media reports said the men forced everyone at the school to switch off their cellphones.

According to a PTI report,SP Ramesh said it was the villagers who informed the police that more than 20 people had raped the minors under Litipara police station. The SP held a meeting with the villagers who assured help to the police in arresting the accused.
