Ex-Jharkhand CM Madhu Koda gets bail,but will remain in jail

He will remain in prison in 4 other cases of hawala transactions and disproportionate assets.

The Jharkhand High Court today granted bail to former Chief Minister Madhu Koda in a case of alleged grant of mining leases illegally,but will continue to remain in jail in other cases.

Koda,in judicial custody since November 30,2009 was granted bail by the single bench of H C Mishra in the case in which the CBI had filed a chargesheet against him and others in a special CBI court accusing him of allotting mining leases to some companies illegally.

Koda who ruled the state between 2006 and 2008,accused in five cases will,however,remain in prison in four other cases of hawala transactions and disproportionate assets.

The Independent legislator was arrested by the officers of Jharkhand Vigilance Bureau from Chaibasa after countrywide raids by Income Tax and Enforcement Directorate on 69 premises on October 31.

The IT had alleged that documents relating to illegal investments and hawala transactions valued at Rs 2,500 crore were seized during the raids on premises of Koda and his associates.

Later,CBI took over the case and along with the ED,charged him with making illegal investments and indulging in hawala transactions with others during his chief ministerial term of 23 months.

His aides Binod Sinha,Vikas Sinha and three others were also in jail in the the same cases.
