Alleging that the Mayawati-led Uttar Pradesh government was involved in a Rs 5,000 crore “farmhouse scam” in Noida,BJP demanded a probe in it by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
“By misusing provisions of the Land Acquisition Act,the Mayawati government acquired 1.10 crore square feet land in Noida at the meagre rate of Rs 80 per square feet,as against the rate of Rs 1,500 per square feet,from farmers. The land was later sold to those close to the government as farm land,” BJP national secretary Kirit Somaiya told reporters here. “This scam,worth over Rs 5,000 crore,was committed at the level of acquisition and allotment,” he alleged.
Somaiya said though the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had started a probe in the scam,the state government was creating hurdles in it.
“We demand a probe by SIT into the scam and the ED should also disclose progress in this case,” he said.
Somaiya said party leaders would meet Governor B L Joshi to press their demand for the SIT probe and would also demand that either farmers’ land should be returned to them or they should be given compensation at the market rate.
As per the BJP’s allegation,land in Dostpur,Mangrauli and Bang areas in Noida was acquired by the state government and later farms measuring around 10 thousand sq meters each were developed there. The area is known as sector 162,164,165 and 167,they alleged.
