5-time former MP gets the boot after calling Sena ‘party of brokers’

Rawle also launched a frontal attack on Uddhav Thackeray' personal secretary Milind Narvekar.

Two weeks after former Shiv Sena MP Mohan Rawle met MNS chief Raj Thackeray, the Shiv Sena decided to crack the whip and expelled the five-time MP who represented Mumbai South Central.

Rawle’s expulsion incidentally came when he was conducting a press conference in which he launched a blistering attack on Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray’s personal assistant Milind Narvekar, blaming him for the sidelining of senior leaders and the “rot that had set in the party”.

“This is not the Shiv Sena that Balasaheb Thackeray created. Today it has become a party of brokers. Milind Narvekar has blighted out the party that our Saheb created. The present leadership of the party is now shielding such a man,” Mohan Rawle said.

The 68-year-old claimed that senior leaders were being sidelined in the party and blamed Narvekar for creating a rift between the old guard and Uddhav Thackeray.

“I knew that the day I took the name of Milind Narvekar,my days in the Sena are over,” Rawle told reporters at his residence in suburban Dadar.

Rawle said there were questions in the mind of many Sainiks if it was Narvekar who was actually running the Shiv Sena.

“It took me four years to get a one-on-one appointment with Uddhav Thackeary. When Balasaheb Thackeray was there, this was not the case. He would hear us out. It is the party president’s prerogative who should get the ticket but he should have at least called me and sought my opinion,” Rawle said.

He also said Bal Thackeray was keen on removing Milind Narvekar from the party and had publicly stated this in front of senior Shiv Sena leaders. Rawle’s discontent had been simmering for quite some time. He had lost the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai South and the Sena leadership had given indications it would not field him in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

To express his displeasure,Rawle had on November 23 met MNS chief Raj Thackeray fuelling speculation he could leave the Sena.

Rawle’s meeting with Raj had prompted Uddhav Thackeray to state that those unhappy with his leadership could leave the party. After this statement, senior Sena leader Manohar Joshi — who was booed for questioning Uddhav’s leadership style recently — decided to issue a public apology.

However,Rawle said he was not going to apologise to any one. There are indications that Rawle might join the MNS in the coming days.
