5.6 magnitude earthquake rocks Kashmir

Official says epicentre of the quake was in Gilgit area,which is under Pakistani control.

A moderate intensity earthquake shook Kashmir Valley in the morning but there were no immediate reports of any casualty or damage.

“An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 on the Richter Scale occurred in Northwest Kashmir at 11.36 am ” an official of the disaster management cell said.

He said the epicentre of the quake was in Gilgit area,which is under Pakistani control.

There are no immediate reports of any damage caused by the tremor,the official said.

Mild earthquake rocks PoK,northwest Pak

A mild earthquake rocked parts of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and the country’s northwestern region today,causing people to rush out of their homes at some places.

The temblor measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale was felt in most parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and lasted about three seconds.

The meteorological office said the epicentre of the quake was near Gilgit.

The tremors were felt in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa capital Peshawar,Malakand,Swat,Abbottabad and Gilgit at 11.30 am.

The quake was followed by 3.9-magnitude aftershocks though there were no reports of damage to property or loss of life.
