A day after his meeting with SP leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad on Tuesday met LJD leader Sharad Yadav, who is recovering from a long spell of illness. He later told reporters that the absence of socialist leaders such as him, Sharad and Mulayam had resulted in the neglect of people-related issues from being raised in Parliament.
The remarks came on a day Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hosted a breakfast meeting with leaders of like-minded Opposition parties.
Lalu also backed LJP leader Chirag Paswan, whose party recently suffered a split with five MPs led by his uncle Pashupati Kuma Paras deserting him. Chirag has emerged as a leader despite the feud and people have rallied around him, Lalu said, while favouring an alliance between Chirag’s LJP and his party.
Meanwhile, in Patna, Chirag Paswan expressed gratitude for the support received from Lalu. However, he ducked queries about the RJD supremo’s suggestion that Chirag should team up with his son Tejashwi Yadav who has emerged as the rising star of the RJD. “My current priority is the ongoing state-wide Ashirwad Yatra,” Chirag said.
