Stand-up comic Kunal Kamra on Monday criticised the Mumbai Police for visiting an outdated address linked to him as part of an ongoing investigation into his alleged remarks about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in a comedy set on YouTube.
In a post on his official ‘X’ and Instagram handles, Kamra slammed the police visit, saying they had gone to an address where he had not lived for a decade, calling the move a waste of time and public resources.
“Going to an address where I haven’t lived for the last 10 years is a waste of your time & public resources…” Kamra posted, with an image of himself enjoying the evening sun in his balcony. As per his Instagram bio, Kamra is currently in Puducherry.

The case stems from Kamra’s recent show at the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, Mumbai, where he performed a parody song targeting Shinde. The act prompted a backlash from Shiv Sena supporters, who vandalised the club and the hotel in which it is located on Sunday night. Khar police booked Kamra following a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel.
The Mumbai Police dispatched teams to Dadar to locate Kamra, following complaints related to his alleged controversial statements. Three separate cases were filed against him at Khar police station by complainants, including the Mayor of Jalgaon city, a Nashik hotelier, and a businessman.
Police summoned Kamra twice for questioning, but he has yet to appear. The latest summons, issued on March 27, required him to be present at Khar police station on March 31. This marks the third summon issued in the case filed by MLA Murji Patel.
Police also arrested 12 Shiv Sainiks, including leader Rahool Kanal, for vandalizing the studio where Kamra’s show was filmed and the hotel where it took place. They received bail hours after being held.
In a separate legal development, the Madras High Court granted Kamra interim anticipatory bail on March 28, offering protection from arrest until April 7. Justice Sunder Mohan imposed conditions while granting the relief. Kamra had approached the court seeking transit anticipatory bail, citing threats he had received after making satirical remarks.
The Maharashtra Legislative Council has also admitted a breach of privilege notice against Kamra concerning his alleged derogatory remarks.
