Patidar quota leader Hardik Patel Wednesday held Khedut Satyagrah, a farmers’ meet, in Vanthali town of Gujarat’s Junagadh where farmers turned up in huge numbers. Former Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha and BJP MP and actor Shatrughan Sinha were also invited at the event.
Lashing out at the government for doing nothing for the farming community, Yashwant Sinha called it “jumlo ki sarkar” that believed in doing only nautanki (drama). “An American company used to purchase milk at cheap rates from Kheda and sell it at a high price in Mumbai. It was then that Sardar Patel asked farmers to set up milk cooperatives. Farmers are almost facing a similar situation today. For four years I waited that something good will be done for farmers. But nothing happened. I sensed that this government is ‘jumlo ki sarkar’ and believes in doing only ‘nautanki’. Therefore, I bade them goodbye and told them my way is different. I would rather align with Hardik Patel,” he said. “Modiji has forgotten farmers. While inaugurating the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, he could have announced some good scheme for farmers,” Sinha added.
Asserting that the inauguration of Sardar Patel’s statue was done for political reasons, Patel said, “Today I was thinking if they have right over the legacy of Sardar Patel. No, they don’t. 125 crore people and especially farmers own that legacy as Sardar had fought for their rights. If the inauguration of 182 m tall statue of Sardar Patel was not for political reasons, why Keshubhai Patel (former CM of Gujarat) was not invited? Why the President of India was not invited if the statue was indeed being dedicated to the nation.”
Shatrughan Sinha said, “Till this moment, I am with the BJP. I don’t know if they would expel me tomorrow. But if they do, I am fully prepared for myself. Mujhe Bharatiya Janata Party se jyada desh ki janata se lagav hai. As Yashwant Sinha says this government and Atal Bihari Vajpayee government is as different as dictatorship and democracy.”
