Patidar quota leader Hardik Patel Wednesday held Khedut Satyagrah, a farmers’ meet, in Vanthali town of Gujarat’s Junagadh where farmers turned up in huge numbers. Former Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha and BJP MP and actor Shatrughan Sinha were also invited at the event.

Lashing out at the government for doing nothing for the farming community, Yashwant Sinha called it “jumlo ki sarkar” that believed in doing only nautanki (drama). “An American company used to purchase milk at cheap rates from Kheda and sell it at a high price in Mumbai. It was then that Sardar Patel asked farmers to set up milk cooperatives. Farmers are almost facing a similar situation today. For four years I waited that something good will be done for farmers. But nothing happened. I sensed that this government is ‘jumlo ki sarkar’ and believes in doing only ‘nautanki’. Therefore, I bade them goodbye and told them my way is different. I would rather align with Hardik Patel,” he said. “Modiji has forgotten farmers. While inaugurating the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, he could have announced some good scheme for farmers,” Sinha added.

Asserting that the inauguration of Sardar Patel’s statue was done for political reasons, Patel said, “Today I was thinking if they have right over the legacy of Sardar Patel. No, they don’t. 125 crore people and especially farmers own that legacy as Sardar had fought for their rights. If the inauguration of 182 m tall statue of Sardar Patel was not for political reasons, why Keshubhai Patel (former CM of Gujarat) was not invited? Why the President of India was not invited if the statue was indeed being dedicated to the nation.”

Shatrughan Sinha said, “Till this moment, I am with the BJP. I don’t know if they would expel me tomorrow. But if they do, I am fully prepared for myself. Mujhe Bharatiya Janata Party se jyada desh ki janata se lagav hai. As Yashwant Sinha says this government and Atal Bihari Vajpayee government is as different as dictatorship and democracy.”

Shatrughan Sinha: Demonetisation was a dictatorial decision

Shatrughan Sinha says: "Demonetisation was a dictatorial decision. Then they brought in GST. In Bhojpuri, they explain GST as "tohari sarkar gai". Before GST completed one year, 357 amendments were made. This rebellion is not a mutiny, but it is doing the duty of telling the truth to people of the country."

If they expel me tomorrow, I am fully prepared for myself: Shatrughan Sinha

Till this moment, I'm with the BJP. I don't know if they would expel me tomorrow. But if they do, I am fully prepared for myself. Mujhe Bharatiya Janata Party se jyada desh ki janata se lagav hai. Yashwant Sinha says that this government and Atal Bihari Vajpayee government is as different as dictatorship and democracy. If you ask a child to give the name of five ministers, they will say Narendra Modi, who is not a minister, Amit Shah... and then she/he will start scratching her back."

If telling the truth is rebellion, I accept the charge of being a rebel, says Shatrughan Sinha

Shatrughan Sinha says, "I could have reached here 2 hours early. I suspect the Central government was shaken by this meeting organised by Hardik Patel and the fact that I was coming here to attend it. Therefore, my flight was delayed repeatedly. A few days ago, I was asked why I am rebelling against BJP while being a BJP member. I told them, I am with the BJP but I am Indian first. Country is paramount. I like to tell the truth. If telling the truth is rebellion, I accept the charge of being a rebel."

Hardik Patel: Not opposed to Sardar's statue, but can't tolerate farmers in perennial poverty

Patel further says, "We are not opposed to Sardar's statue. But we can't tolerate farmers in perennial poverty and haplessness. And mark my words, nobody will visit the statue from tomorrow onward."

Hardik Patel says 'It is we who have elected such dumb people'

Hardik Patel says, "We are responsible for this state of affairs. It is we who have elected such dumb people and allowed them to form the government. Hardik Patel: True tribute to Sardar would have been ensuring the welfare of farmers

Hardik Patel says, "Today, they inaugurated the 182m statue of Sardar Patel. Now, they will spend Rs12 every day on maintaining it. Sardar never said he should be worshipped. But they never want farmers to progress. They want farmers to remain poor forever while overseeing that Adanis and Ambanis get richer."
