Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said Monday that the Muzaffarnagar school incident “underlines how much the dangerous communal propaganda of the Sangh Parivar can demonise a person”.
Commenting on the incident in Uttar Pradesh in which a private school teacher instructed children in her classroom to hit a Muslim student, Vijayan said in a post on Facebook, “The incident convinces us that communalism is the worst state of mind which a person can lower himself into. This is a warning that we have to build up a strong defence against the ideology of the Sangh Parivar. All democratic secular people should join hands to realise that responsibility,’’ he said.
He said the incident reminded us that communalism and fascism would drain the last droplet of love and empathy from man. “How much communal venom might have overwhelmed that teacher not only to punish a seven-year-old boy for his religion but also execute that punishment using students belonging to another religion,” he said.
Vijayan said the incident in Muzaffarnagar, where the Sangh Parivar had inflicted deep wounds, is not an isolated one. “Hindutva communalism tries to convert India, which has been a great example of democracy, into a ground of hatred. News reports from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Manipur substantiate that,” he added.
“The latest incident underlines how much the dangerous communal propaganda of the Sangh Parivar can demonise a person,” Vijayan said.
Meanwhile, Kerala Education Minister and CPI(M) leader V Sivankutty said the state government is ready to provide education for the students in Muzaffarnagar. “If his parents are willing, we are ready to provide all facilities for his education. The state has urged the UP chief minister to take deterrent action against the teacher who had insulted the student. Kerala is duty-bound to keep secular values close to the heart. A school in Kerala has already admitted a student from strife-torn Manipur,” Sivankutty said.
