Kerala man suspects wife of having affair with neighbour, hacks them to death

Vishnu was staying with his mother Sathi at the rented premises. The mother allegedly told the police that Vishnu had gone to bed at 8 pm, and that she awoke at around midnight on hearing him cry. When she headed to the sit-out of the house, where she saw Vishnu lying in a pool of blood and the body of Vaishna nearby. Baiju allegedly threatened to attack Sathi too.

Police said the couple would quarrel frequently over Baiju’s suspicions. After a similar argument Sunday, Vaishna, fearing that Baiju would get violent, allegedly sought refuge at Vishnu’s house fearing attack.

According to local panchayat member Shoba Devarajan, Baiju and Vishnu were friends and worked in the timber industry, where they cut and loaded wood.

“A day before the murder, they were together at work. We have not heard anything about an affair between the murdered persons,” she said “What we learned is that Baiju was provoked over a message landed in his wife’s mobile phone. He rushed out to the house of Vishnu with a sickle. Vaishnavi went after him, pleading that he shouldn’t make a scene. However, Baiju had a heated argument with Vishnu, before hacking him, and later Vaishnavi, to death. Vishnu’s mother was sleeping in another room in the house.”

Baiju had a dispute with wife Vaishnavi over a debt of Rs 1.25 lakh which she had availed from Kudumbashree mission, the panchayat member said. “She reportedly never disclosed how that debt had been incurred. Later, it was repaid with the money from her own family.’’ she said.
