Kerala local body elections 2025: Polling on December 9 & 11; all you need to know before voting

Kerala Local Body Elections 2025: Kerala local body elections will be held in two phases on December 9 and 11 2025. Counting will be held on 13 December 2025. Elections are to be held in 1199 of the total 1200 local bodies in Kerala.

Mattannur municipality in Kannur District will not go to polls this time as the elections are due in September 2027. State Election Commissioner, Shri Shajahan said that the code would be strictly enforced across the State till the completion of the election process in the third week of December.

With the announcement of the poll schedule, the model code of conduct has come into force across the state since November 10.

Important Things Voters Must Know for Kerala Local Body Polls 2025: 

  • Eligibility for local body voter list: You must be 18 or older on or before Jan 1, 2025 to be eligible
  • Search for voter name:  Go to the official website of Kerala State Election Commission. https://sec.kerala.gov.in/login. Check whether your name is in the final/draft voter list. You have 3 modes for this: State-wise, Local body-wise, ward-wise.

  • How to view voters’ list: Download or view the published (draft or final) electoral roll for your ward or local body.
  • Know your member: Use this to see who the current / elected members of your local body (ward) are.
  • Know your local body candidates: Check details of the candidates running in your ward (once local body election nominations are finalised).
  • Unique 9-Digit SEC ID: For 2025 local body elections, Kerala is using a new 9-digit voter ID: “SEC” + 9 digits.  This helps avoid duplication and keeps things standardised.

  • Revision Process: The SEC’s summary revision includes Form 4 (new inclusion), Form 4A (Pravasi), Form 5 (objection), Form 6 (correction), and Form 7 (transposition).

More than 72,000 candidates in fray for local body elections
As per the latest update, Kerala has 72,005 candidates in the fray for the 2025 local body elections after the deadline for the withdrawal of nominations was over at 3 p.m. on Monday. They include 37,786 female candidates, 34,218 male candidates, and one transgender candidate. The State Election Commission said these figures are not final and would be updated.
