Kerala Local Body Election Results 2025 LIVE Updates: Congress-led UDF UDF sweeps Kerala local body polls, NDA makes history in Thiruvananthapuram

Congress leader Shama Mohamed says: "What a fantastic result for UDF in Kerala in the local body elections! UDF has won 4 corporations out of 6 and most of the panchayats & municipalities. This clearly shows that in the upcoming assembly elections, Congress will come back to power with a huge majority."

At 1:30 PM, the UDF had clear majority in block and grama panchayats. Here's how the tally stood:

Corporations: Congress-led UDF has won or is leading in 4, the LDF in 1, and the NDA in 1

Municipalities: UDF has won or is leading in 54, the LDF in 28, and the NDA in 2

District Panchayats: Both the UDF and LDF have the lead in 7 each; NDA in none

Block Panchayats: UDF has won or is leading in 81, the LDF in 64, and the NDA in none

Grama Panchayats: UDF has won or is leading in 495, the LDF in 348, and the NDA in 26

For the first time ever, the BJP-led NDA is set to win the city corporation of capital Thiruvananthapuram. The NDA has won or is leading in close to 50 of the total 100 wards, with the Congress-led UDF and the ruling LDF far behind. The BJP has been gaining in strength in the southern district over the past few elections. In 2016, BJP won the Nemom constituency in the district - which was its first ever entry into the Kerala Assembly . And in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the party gave a tough fight to Shashi Tharoor of the Congress. In the last local body elections in 2020, the BJP led for a while before the LDF pushed through and selected 21-year-old Arya Rajendran as the mayor.

At 12:59 PM, the NDA was leading in only the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation. It had lead in 25 grama panchayats and 2 municipalities.

Slight edge for UDF in Palakkad Muncipality, leads in 13 seats. Ruling NDA in second place with 11 seats

At 11 AM, the UDF has a slight edge in Grama Panchayats, with leads in 390 wards. LDF is leading in 367 wards and NDA in 30.

In Block Panchayats, UDF maintains lead in 77 wards, LDF in 63. The NDA is staring at a zero-ward result in Block Panchayats.

District panchayat UDF leads in 7 district Panchayats. LDF-6, NDA-0.

In Thrissur corporation, the Congress is leading in a majority of the wards. The BJP, which had six seats in 2020, is leading in only in eight. Local MP and Union Minister Suresh Gopi had led the party campaign in Thrissur. In the corporation area, Gopi had gained lead in 34 divisions in the Lok Sabha election in 2024.

The BJP-led NDA is a far third in most of the urban and rural local bodies, but in the corporation of capital Thiruvananthapuram it is in the lead. As counting progresses the NDA is increasing its lead over close contender LDF. The BJP is traditionally strong in Thiruvananthapuram. In the last local body elections in 2020, the BJP led for a long while before the LDF scraped through and selected 21-year-old Arya Rajendran as the youngest mayor in the country at that time. The BJP has never won a municipal corporation in Kerala.

In the three-tier panchayats it is neck and neck between the LDF and the UDF . The BJP-led NDA is way behind in grama panchayats: UDF leading in 350 and and LDF in 360 and the BJP in 31

Block panchayats: LDF leads in 73 and UDF leads in 68. NDA in 2.

District panchayats: LDF leads in 8 and UDF leads in 6.

Kerala Local Body Election vote-counting update at 10: 15:

Corporations: The Congress-led UDF is now leading in four of the six corporations. The LDF is leading in only one. In capital Thiruvananthapuram, the NDA is now leading, though the fight with the LDF is close.

Municipalities: The LDF leads in 48 of the 87 seats. LDF in 30, and the BJP-led NDA in 1

The Congress-led UDF is leading in three of the six municipal corporations. The United Democratic Front is leading in Kochi, Thrissur and Kannur. The CPI (M) led Left Democratic Front is leading in Kollam and Kozhikode. In Thiruvanathapuram corporation, there is a neck and neck fight between the NDA and the LDF.

At 9:33 AM, NDA gained back some footing in the gram panchayats, but couldn't make inroads in any municipal corporation. It had one lead in a municipality, and 19 in gram panchayats.

The CPI(M) is seeking a mandate for its nine-and-a-half years of regime, Congress, which has been in Opposition since 2016, is struggling to stage a comeback. A better performance in the local body elections will boost the morale of the party-led UDF to fight the assembly elections. BJP-led has fielded a record number of candidates this time to increase its tally across the entire spectrum.

Out of 2.86 crore voters in the electoral rolls of the state election commission, 2.10 crore people had cast their votes in the elections held on December 9 and 11, registering 73.69 per cent of polling. Among the 14 districts, Malappuram witnessed the highest polling (77.37 per cent), while the lowest was in Pathanamthitha (66.78 per cent).

Trends at 8:51 AM showed the LDF leading on 136 Gram Panchayat seats, while the UDF was leading in 113 of the 941 Gram Panchayats. In 29 of the 87 Municipalities, LDF and UDF were leading at 29 and 28, respectively. LDF had the leads in 4 of the 6 municipal corporations. The UDF and the NDA were in the lead in the other two.
