2 boys missing since going out to graze cattle in Kathua last month, senior J-K Police officers visit families

The boys, aged 15 and 12, had taken cattle for grazing near the Bhamberwan Goat Farm and did not return home, their families told the police. An FIR has been registered.

Senior officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday visited the families of two boys from Kathua, who have been missing since February 27, and assured them that all possible measures were being taken to trace their whereabouts.

The boys, aged 15 and 12, had taken cattle for grazing near the Bhamberwan Goat Farm and did not return home, their families told the police. An FIR has been registered.

Deputy Inspector General of Police for Jammu, Samba and Kathua range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, along with senior police officers visited the families on Tuesday.

The DIG directed the local police officers to constitute teams and contact relatives of both the boys and as well as of other nomad “deras” (settlements) in Punjab, Jammu and Udhampur to trace them. He also directed that their photographs be circulated and the public be asked to inform the police in case of any information about them.

Last week, three civilians, including a 14-year-old, who were part of a wedding procession on the way from Billawar’s Dehota village to Surag village in Malhar, had gone missing while passing through the Inchhu forests. Three days later, on March 8, their bodies were found in a river flowing through the forests. While police are yet to ascertain their cause of death, Union minister Jitendra Singh said they were killed by militants.
