Former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s niece has moved a petition in the Madras High Court, seeking to restrain the release of a movie and a web series based on her aunt’s life. J Deepa, in her petition, has demanded that the makers of the two projects get her approval on the story, script and screenplay before production.

The film in question is being directed by A L Vijay and produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri. Titled Thalaivi in Tamil and Jaya in Hindi, it stars Kangna Ranaut in the lead role. Meanwhile, the web series, directed by Gautham Menon, is titled Queen and stars Ramya Krishnan.

Deepa was kept away from Jayalalithaa’s close circle for over a decade before the AIADMK supremo’s death.

Alleging that these projects were for “commercial and monetary benefits without the consent” of Jayalalithaa’s family, Deepa’s petition says her aunt was a “great political personality”, and that her “life story cannot be filmed without adding the life” of Deepa too.

She said that “in such an event”, the film and web series projects would amount an interference of her privacy, and she was “not aware of the story, script, screen play, dialogue, etc.”
