The special cell of Delhi Police claimed to have made the first arrest in the killing of a Sub-Inspector posted with the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Pulwama district in October.
The accused was identified as Ansar ul Haque (28), who was earlier associated with a political party in Kashmir. According to the police, he later got associated with terror outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. The police have claimed that he leaked information pertaining to the slain S-I Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir’s movements to suspected militants.
The police claimed that the accused lured Imtiyaz with the help of his girlfriend, who also knew him, and later tipped-off suspected militants. The militants tracked Mir’s car and intercepted it at Wahibugh village in Pulwama district. They then took him to a nearby stream and shot him dead.
The accused is said to have fled to Mumbai after the attack and later shifted to Bangalore, where he kept shifting his hideout before he decided to return to Delhi. A 12-member team from the Special Cell spotted Haq at the T-3 Terminal of IGI Airport.
“The accused is a graduate in English and was associated with a political party in Kashmir. He later made contact with local militants associated with the Hizbul. He was in regular contact with the militants and was tasked with leaking information pertaining to the movement of J&K police officers and security personnel from other agencies,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah.
