As Pakistan continued cross-border shelling following an Indian strike on terrorist infrastructure, the Indian Army confirmed that a soldier had died on Wednesday.
“GOC and all ranks of White Knight Corps salute the supreme sacrifice of L/Nk Dinesh Kumar of 5 Fd Regt, who laid down his life on May 7 during Pakistan Army shelling. We also stand in solidarity with all victims of the targeted attacks on innocent civilians in Poonch sector,” the 16 Corps, Indian Army, posted on X.

The confirmation, which came at around 11 pm, marked the end of a day of intense artillery strikes along the Line of Control, particularly in Poonch. At least 12 civilians also died, while 40 were injured, in the shelling.

Officials said the Indian Army is responding to the shelling in a befitting manner. Since the Indian strikes in Pakistan and PoK, small arms fire has given way to heavy artillery along the LoC.
Artillery fire was the most severe in Krishna Ghati, Shahpur and Mankote in Poonch district, and Laam, Manjakote and Gambhir Brahmana in Rajouri.
In the Valley
In Kashmir Valley, intense artillery fire from Pakistan hit villages in the Uri sector in north Kashmir’s Baramulla and the Tangdhar sector in Kupwara.

Officials said that the artillery shells landed as deep as Gingal village, some 30 kilometres from Baramulla town, causing injuries to 11 people, most of them in Salamabad near the Uri town.
A resident of Uri said that the artillery fire from Pakistan started on Tuesday night. “At around 11 pm, we went inside the bunkers,” he said. “After some time, there was intense artillery fire. This is the worst since the ceasefire was renewed in 2021.”
Officials said that while the border residents have community and personal underground bunkers, there were more injuries away from the border. He said the Pakistani artillery shells landed in Kamalkote, Salamabad, Dachna and Gingal. An official said that 15 houses were damaged.
