If one were to look up Google search trends in India over the past couple of years, ‘inflation’ is one word which always managed to prop up indicating a tremendous amount of interest among internet users.
However, the latest search trends show that the topic has seen a decline in interest this year. As a matter of fact, 2014 recorded the lowest numbers in terms of online search interest for ‘inflation.’

A look at the search trends in the period between June, 2014 to January, 2015 (blue line) and June, 2013 to January, 2014 (red line) shows definitive results. The maximum interest for ‘inflation’ was seen in the months of August, September and December in 2013 – a time when inflation in the country was at its peak. However, as the blue line denotes, search trends for the same perioud in 2014 show a decline.
Some of the most common search terms on Google were ‘india inflation’, inflation in india’, ‘inflation rate’ and ‘inflation index’.
According to data released by the government on Wednesday, while headline inflation for December rose marginally 0.11 % compared to a 0% growth in the previous month, food price inflation has risen 5.2 % as against 0.63 % growth in November. There are also reports of a rise in wholesale prices of vegetables due to unexpected rain and dense fog.
