IndiGo continued to face severe operational disruptions for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday and said it had cancelled fewer than 850 flights across major airports. The large-scale cancellations came just a day after the airline managed to secure temporary relaxations in the second phase of the court-mandated crew duty and rest regulations
The Ministry of Civil Aviation Saturday directed IndiGo to complete ticket refunds by Sunday evening and ensure delivery of misplaced baggage within the next 48 hours. The ministry warned that delays or non-compliance would attract immediate regulatory action.
The directive came a day after IndiGo cancelled more than 1000 flights over the week, paralysing air travel for passengers on several important routes. The disruption was caused by a severe shortage of cockpit crew following the rollout of the new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms compelled IndiGo to ground numerous aircraft and cancel flights across the country.
According to IndiGo’s X handle post, 14 flights, which were to take off for Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Cochin, Kolkata, Bangalore, Delhi and Indore, were cancelled till Saturday afternoon.
Bengaluru witnessed the sharpest disruption with 124 flights cancelled, comprising 63 departures and 61 arrivals. The cancellation wave led to overcrowding at the airport, with passengers struggling to secure alternate flights, according to the Reuters reports.
Operations at Mumbai airport were affected with 109 cancellations, including 51 outgoing and 58 incoming services.
The national capital saw 106 flight cancellations, accounting for 54 departures and 52 arrivals.
Hyderabad airport reported 66 cancellations, adding to growing frustration among passengers who complained about limited communication from the airline.
In some relief, IndiGo resumed nine out of 11 scheduled flights from Jammu, allowing stranded passengers to travel after days of uncertainty, according to the PTI reports.
Disruptions persisted in Srinagar, where the airline cancelled seven arriving and seven departing flights. Of the 36 scheduled services, a significant portion never took off due to rostering challenges.
Goa’s Dabolim airport experienced 14 cancellations. Many passengers were informed last minute on Saturday, worsening the crowd situations outside the Dabolim airport, located in South Goa.
Pune recorded 42 cancellations, including 14 inbound and 28 outbound flights. Services to major metro destinations remained disrupted, inconveniencing students, business travellers and families heading for weekend plans.
Ahmedabad was among the worst-hit cities with 35 departing IndiGo flights cancelled. In total, 72 IndiGo flights (departures + arrivals) scheduled between 12.01 am and 11.59 pm were cancelled, airport officials said.
Similar scenes unfolded at Vadodara airport, where three departures were cancelled on Saturday.
Rajkot saw minimal impact in comparison. Only one IndiGo flight—bound for Mumbai was cancelled, while seven flights to
Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Hyderabad and Bengaluru operated as planned, providing partial relief to local travellers.
