Train services hit in Bihar: Indian Railways has cancelled 51 Bihar-bound trains, diverted 47 trains and short-terminated or short-originated 11 trains due to non-interlocking (NI) works at Rajendra Pul today. The infrastructure work is being carried out for the commissioning of a new rail bridge parallel to the existing Rajendra Bridge over the Ganga River near Mokama in Bihar.

Speaking to Indianexpress.com, Saraswati Chandra, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the East Central Railway (ECR) said: “These trains have been regulated (cancelled, diverted, short-originated/terminated) due to scheduled railway work at Rajendra Pul.”

According to Chandra, the new bridge will connect the existing rail network at Upper Hathidah Junction, Tal Junction, Rampur Dumra, Dinkar Gram Simaria and Barauni Junction.

The CPRO said that the new bridge has been built alongside the existing Rajendra Bridge, the 1.9-km rail-cum-road bridge over the Ganga connecting Mokama and Barauni, which has been in service since 1959.

“As the existing bridge carries only a single railway line and cannot be doubled due to technical limitations, Indian Railways approved a parallel double-line bridge in the 2015-16 Rail Budget at an estimated cost of Rs 1,491.47 crore,” he said.
