Sanjha Morcha and Punjab Congress has decided not to field a candidate against each other in the upcoming block samiti and zila parishad polls in the state.
The decision was taken late on Wednesday in a meeting between Morcha and Congress leaders.
To start with, such an arrangement was finalised in Budhlada constituency of Mansa district. Among the 20 seats of block samiti in Budhlada, while Congress will field candidates on 15 seats,PPP will contest six seats. From the remaining four seats,CPI will field candidates. In the zila parishad polls, out of the four seats, while PPP and CPI will contest one seat each,Congress will fight two seats.
There is no coalition among parties, but only a sort of local arrangement. Sanjha Morcha is not contesting panchayati elections,as we have already announced. For zila parishad and block samiiti elections, instructions have been given to workers at the local level to decide on a case-to-case basis. If in any area, the other party can benefit by not fielding a candidate or we can benefit from Congress not contesting,it will be done, Peoples Party of Punjab president Manpreet Singh Badal said, adding that Morcha was not supporting Congress but only facilitating each other.
There has been some local arrangement in Mansa and if candidates at the local level in other areas also reach such agreements, they are free to do the same, said Manpreet.
