A youth was arrested Monday for allegedly hurling a shoe at Bihar Chief Minister Jeetan Ram Manjhi during the ‘Janta Durbar’ in Patna. Amritesh Kumar (25) took the step when the officials prevented him as he was trying to convey to the CM his “concern on growing unemployment” and “tardy process of development”.
Son of Umeshwar Singh, an AAP leader from Chapra, Kumar has set up a forum to address problems of unemployment and had been trying to meet the CM for some time but was “not allowed”. Apparently peeved, Kumar started shouting and threw his shoe that fell short of the place where Manjhi was sitting.
After a brief ruckus, policemen present at the venue arrested the youth. He later told the media that he was frustrated that he had not been allowed to meet Manjhi.
Confirming the arrest, JS Rana, Patna SSP said: “The youth had been creating ruckus and trying to hurt the CM”. Police found him carrying two identity cards bearing different dates of birth. A senior police official said: “The youth talks like an activist. We are trying to find out more about his past and any possible motive. The youth said he had also been upset with the CM making irresponsible statements and some casteist remarks in past”.
