In a strange case, a 25-year-old woman approached a local court for permission to marry extradited gangster Abu Salem, stating that rumours of her marriage with the gangster last year had made it impossible to find a match elsewhere.
Responding to her plea, Salem said he will give “his name to her officially”. The woman from Mumbra had approached the Terrorist And Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) court.
The woman said she was defamed after her name and photographs appeared in the media linking her to the gangster. She complained that she is known as Salem’s wife in her locality, due to which it had become difficult for her to go anywhere. “I feel since I am known as his wife, I should officially get married to him as no other alternative is available nor is any other person ever going to marry me,” her application read.

Salem filed a reply Monday. “I say that as the applicant has approached court, it shows she has been hurt. She intends to get married to me and hence, I intend to go ahead with the proposal of getting married before the Registrar,” Salem stated.
Salem urged the court to give favourable directions so that “the woman can move around freely and will be able to meet and answer relatives, friends and well-wishers “.
Salem “apologised” to her for sufferings she had to undergo and said he has no intention to cause “any disrespect or harm to the applicant.”
