Woman arrested while trying to supply drug to son in Amritsar jail

The Punjab Police Thursday arrested a woman who was earlier booked on charges of possessing and allegedly trying to supply a narcotic substance to her son lodged in Amritsar jail.

The Punjab Police Thursday arrested a woman who was earlier booked on charges of possessing and allegedly trying to supply a narcotic substance to her son lodged in Amritsar jail. Amarjit Kaur was booked under different sections of NDPS Act and under a section of The Prisons Act after four grams of a powder,suspected to be heroin,was found on her person when she reached to meet her son Amarjit Kaur,is lodged in Amritsar jail and facing trial in an NDPS case.

“We will send the powder for examination. It is white in colour just like heroin,” said ASI Narinder Singh,the investigating officer in the case

During the preliminary investigations,the woman reportedly told the police that she had bought the substance from her residence after her son demanded it and told her the exact location where it was kept.

Amritsar additional jail superintendent R K Sharma said the “heroin like substance” was recovered from the possession of Amarjit,a resident of Bagichi Hari Ram Gawal Mandi in Amritsar,during frisking by jail staff.

“It appears to be a case of emotional blackmail. The woman was forced to bring the drug for consumption by her son,” Sharma said.

She was produced in a local court,which remanded her in judicial custody till July 24.
