Despite Punjab and Haryana High Court orders, three witnesses in the Tarn Taran case in which Punjab Police personnel publically assaulted a girl are yet to receive CRPF security. The central force has, however, deployed eight of its personnel to guard the victim and her family after the High Court issued contempt notices to the IG,CRPF,for not providing them security,on March 22.
The family members, however, alleged that no security has been given to the three witnesses: Gurmukh Singh, the girls uncle,Sarpanch Sukhraj Singh, who has been pursuing the case and one Jagjit Singh, who had captured the incident on his mobile phone.
A total of six people had moved the High Court demanding protection from Punjab Police personnel, whom they alleged were pressurising the girl to withdraw her complaint. Taking strong note of this,Justice Ranjit Singh had directed the IG,CRPF,to provide security to the six petitioners and even issued a contempt notice after it was brought to the courts notice that security hadnt been provided to the victim and her kin.
Talking to the Indian Express, advocate Gurvinder Singh Sidhu said: This is wilful disobedience of Court directions. The Court order is very clear security has to be provided to all six petitioners but no security has been provided to three of them.
The case will come up for resumed hearing on Monday (today).
