‘Will assess crop damage due to rain’

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday said that the state government would soon conduct a comprehensive survey to assess the damage caused to wheat and other crops,due to heavy rains that lashed the the region on Saturday night.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday said that the state government would soon conduct a comprehensive survey to assess the damage caused to wheat and other crops,due to heavy rains that lashed the the region on Saturday night.

While attending a function to mark the birth anniversary of Sant Baba Ishar Singh at Nanaksar Thaath,Badal said that he had asked the financial commissioner (revenue) to direct all deputy commissioners to immediately carry out special mutation (girdawari) to ascertain damage caused to wheat.

He added that as per government norms,adequate compensation would be given to the affected farmers after the survey was completed. Reiterating that the government was fully committed to protecting farmer interests,Badal said that the state government would extend support to those whose standing crop had been damaged.
