The wife of a local SP leader was shot dead Tuesday inside her house in Ghazipur police station area by her friend, who is the pradhan of a village.

The police said Deepa Singh, a resident of Ismailganj locality, had befriended Suman Singh, village head of Savaijpur Katra in Gonda, two years ago when the latter became a member of the former’s NGO ‘Om Jagriti Seva Sansthan’.

They said Suman, who stayed at Deepa’s house Monday night, shot her with a pistol Tuesday morning, following an altercation. Lucknow SSP Praveen Kumar said both Suman and deceased’s husband, Jainendra Singh alias Babloo, had consumed liquor Monday night.

The police lodged a murder case against Suman on the complaint of Babloo and she was subsequently arrested. Deepa’s younger son Yuvraj said Suman occasionally stayed at their home. He said Suman had an argument with Deepa Monday night, which ended later. He said Suman shot his mother twice in her chest at 9 am in the kitchen when he was getting ready for school.

Yuvraj said he and his father rushed to the kitchen on hearing the gunshots. Suman called her friends Shivam Mishra and Vipin Singh and escaped in a car, he added. Police later arrested Suman and Shivam and seized the pistol.
