According to the media reports, Salem, who was on his way to Lucknow to attend a court hearing in a fake passport case filed against him, married his 27-year-old girlfriend on the train on January 8 in the presence of a Kazi. The woman is believed to have boarded the train at Kalyan and the Kazi got in after it crossed Maharashtra.

“The woman was a regular visitor at the sessions court for the last few months. She would attend court hearings and was also believed to have visited him in jail several times,” said a senior CBI officer who is handling the 1993 blast case. Thane Police Commissioner K P Raghuvanshi said, “I have instructed Additional Commissioner of Police D M Phadtare to conduct an inquiry into the matter. No clear picture has emerged so far.”
