Hours after the BJP accused Virbhadra Singh of bribery and money laundering, the veteran Himachal Pradesh politician threatened to break the cameras of TV journalists if they asked him about the allegations.
Both Singh and his Congress party apologised on Wednesday.
“I will break your cameras. Don’t you have any other work to do?” Singh told reporters at Ani in Kullu on Tuesday evening. The threat was broadcast on TV Wednesday morning, following which Congress spokesman Sandeep Dikshit apologised for the “unfortunate” outburst.
“Sometimes in the midst of election campaign, such things happen under mental or physical pressure… If anyone is hurt,we apologise,” Dikshit said.
At a press conference in Shimla later,Singh said,“I am very sorry. I did not mean to offend anyone. I respect the media. I have no hesitation in showing my regret if I have hurt anyone… There is no politician more well-mannered than me.”
