Claiming that Vasundhara Raje and Lalit Modi are “business partners”, the Congress on Monday alleged that a firm owned by the Rajasthan Chief Minister’s son Dushyant, in which the former IPL chief and Raje have shares, has “forcibly” and “illegally” occupied Dholpur Palace. The party once again demanded her resignation.

The Congress released documents, including revenue department records between 1955 and 2010 and a court statement of Raje’s estranged husband Hemant Singh, to claim that the Dholpur Palace is a government property and not a personal property of the Dholpur family.

“Niyant Heritage Hotels Pvt Ltd, owned by Vasundhara Raje, her son Dushyant Singh, daughter-in-law Niharika Singh and Lalit Modi has taken possession of a Government of Rajasthan property, converted it into a private high-end luxury hotel and invested over Rs 100 crore in that,” senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said.

Modi, the Rajasthan Chief Minister and her family has “forcibly” converted the government property into private property, he alleged. “The Government of Rajasthan’s documents conclusively establish that the Dholpur Palace was never the private property of Dholpur family, it was always a government property,” he said.

“This fact is also admitted by none less than Hemant Singh in a court in an inter-party litigation. In a written statement dated November 14, 1980 filed before court, Singh stated that ‘after the merger of Dholpur Riyasat, City Palace, Dholpur was declared as owned by government’,” Ramesh said.

He said Raje’s 2013 poll affidavit shows that she owned shares in Niyant Heritage Hotels Pvt Ltd. He said she owned 3,280 shares, her son and daughter-in-law nearly 3,250 shares each and Lalit Modi’s company Ananda Heritage Hotels Pvt Ltd 815 shares, “establishing the financial relationship, partnership and investment of overseas money from a tax haven.”

Ramesh also took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as “Swami Maunendra Baba” for his continued silence over the controversy.

Asked whether the party has proof to establish that Niyant Heritage has occupied Dholpur Palace, he said “due you need any document to prove that 24, Akbar Road is occupied by the Indian National Congress.”

“This is a bizarre PPP. A private company managing a public property as a private property. We expect action to be taken,” he said.
