As the Congress continues to stall parliamentary proceedings over the issue of her resignation, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Sunday broke her silence over the state government’s MoU with a Portugal-based cancer research institute, while asserting that the people of the state would vote for the BJP again in the next elections.
“I don’t care what the television and the Congress say… the only thing I am concerned with is the welfare of the people of the state… for which I and the government are working day and night,” she said. In the elections to be held three-and-a-half years later, the BJP will return to power in the state, she said.
Speaking at the BJP’s state executive meet, Raje put up a spirited defence explaining her position before party workers from across the state on Sunday. At the meet, attended by party MLAs, officials and workers from across Rajasthan, Raje said her government had signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Portugal’s Champalimaud Foundation in the interest of the people of the state.
“The MoU with the famous international institute was done for the betterment of people. If the people benefit from such a thing, we will sign such MoUs not once but ten times,” she said. “The land is ours… the hospital is hours… The MoU is only for technical research. It will train our doctors and paramedical staff. Cancer patients from Rajasthan have to sell their jewelery, their land and go to Mumbai for treatment. Keeping this in mind the government decided to set up this tertiary cancer centre,” she said.
The Congress, which has been demanding Raje’s resignation for supporting former IPL chief Lalit Modi’s immigration bid before British authorities, is attacking her for entering into an MoU with the Champalimaud Foundation, months after Modi’s wife Minal was treated there.
