Training its guns on Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, the VHP, which has been agitating against demolition of temples in the state, accused her of “being a pseudo secular” and warned that it would make her “pariah” among her own people.
“The chief minister is trying to be a pseudo secular. And in this attempt, one is trying to woo outsiders who do not become one’s own, instead, one loses the confidence of her own people,” said VHP joint general secretary Surendrakumar Jain.
Jain alleged that the state government had targeted Hindu places of worship only. “Why only temples have been targeted… This discrimination will not be allowed. That is why the local unit of VHP opposed the demolition and it is natural… Taking to the streets was the last resort,” he said. “One wonders if a person is trying to be secular and is becoming anti-Hindu.”
He, however, clarified that the VHP’s fight was not against any person, but against “person’s actions”. “We will take this agitation to its logical end,” he said. The demolition of temples across Jaipur has been done under the state government’s drive against unauthorised religious structures, in line with the Supreme Court orders dating back to 2013.
