Uproarious scenes were witnessed in West Bengal assembly today when TMC legislator Ashok Ghosh made certain remarks regarding rape incidents in the state.
Ghosh, who represents Howrah North constituency, duringthe course of a discussion on the governor’s speech at the budget session had said no women of the families of the legislators would dare to be out on the streets or be present at Park Street in the late hours of the night in view of the atrocities on women.
Pointing to the Opposition benches,he said so much hue and cry was made when incidents of rape occurred. This led to the uproarious scenes, which died down after some time.
A 37-year-old woman and mother of two was allegedly gangraped in a car after being picked up from a Park Street restaurant over a year ago. Two of the accused are still absconding, while a fast track court last month framed charge sheet against three others who are in judicial custody in connection with the alleged crime.
