Daughter of UP minister drowns in Rishikesh

Chances of the girl's survival appeared slim as the rescuers had to stop the search operation after the night set in.

Abida Hasan, daughter of UP’s labour minister Shahid Manzoor, was feared drowned in the Ganga near Phoolchatti under Rishikesh police station area on Sunday.

Efforts were on to trace her body. IG (Garhwal range) Sanjay Gunjyal said  24-year-old Abida Hasan, a medical student,was a part of a five-member team that had come to Phoolchatti for river rafting from Meerut.  He said the search operation was being undertaken jointly by Pauri and Tehri districts.  “CO Rishikesh and SHO Munikareti are camping there. I have asked SP to reach the site also,” he said.

Meanwhile, chances of the girl’s survival appeared slim as the rescuers had to stop the search operation after the night set in. The operation will start again at the crack of dawn Monday.
