Nine Samajwadi Party MLCs, including Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, have sanctioned a total of Rs 1.35 crore from their respective legislature development funds for Urban Development and Minority Affairs Minister Azam Khan’s dream project Mohammad Ali Jauhar University at Rampur.
The MLCs have sanctioned the fund for the construction of the law faculty building at the university.
While four MLCs, including Akhilesh, Madhu Gupta (Lucknow), Ramsunder Das Nishad (Deoria) and Sarojini Agarwal (Meerut), have sanctioned Rs 20 lakh each from their Vidhayak Nidhi, Prison Minister Balram Yadav has sanctioned Rs 15 lakh.
The foundation stone of law faculty was laid by Uttrakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi on December 10. Incidentally, it was Qureshi, who while holding the additional charge of UP, had in July this year cleared Mohammad Ali Jauhar University (Amendment) Bill, which had been pending for seven years, thus granting Azam’s pet project the minority status.
