Undertrial killed in prison brawl at Bengaluru central jail

He was in prison since January after being arrested for harassing a girl to marry him.

A 21-year-old undertrial prisoner was murdered by four other inmates at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru on Friday morning following a fight over celebration of the Ganesh festival in the prison.

The deceased has been identified as N Ganesh.

The Parappana Agrahara police said the youth was killed around 9.20 pm after he started a fight with other four prisoners over decorating a corridor inside the prison where a Ganesha idol was kept for display.

The altercation resulted in Ganesh being punched on his face and kicked all over his body.

He was declared dead when shifted to the Victoria Hospital. The accused had been identified as Sathish, Prabhu, Prashanth and Bharath, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East division), Rohini Katoch Sepat said. Police said that the incident took place at Tower 2, Barrack A, when many of the prisoners were having their breakfast.

The accused and the victim were a part of team asked to clean and decorate the Tower 2 corridor where a Ganesha idol was kept. The entire incident was caught on a CCTV camera in the towe and police are verifying the footage to see what exactly transpired.
