It took massive protests by locals following alleged kidnapping of two minor girls in a fortnight from Rewari railway station to wake the Haryana Police officials from their deep slumber and announce a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for those providing information about the girls.

The action came Thursday after a large number of villagers, including the family members of Parul (7) and Divya (5),both allegedly kidnapped from Rewari railway station, staged protests against the Haryana Police in Rewari.

Parul was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified persons from the Rewari railway station on May 4. as per her father Rajesh Kumar, employed at Guru Jambeshwar University,Hisar, his family, including Parul had got off the train at Rewari railway station on May 4. When the family came out of the station, they realised that Parul had gone missing.

While the district police force failed to trace Parul in the last about 20 days, another girl Divya was allegedly kidnapped form the same railway station on May 20,further exposing the callousness and shoddy policing in the district. Divya is a resident of Patauda village in Jhajjar district. She had reached Rewari station with her father,Krishan Kumar, who had some work in the district. However,in a re-run of Parul incident, when Kumar came out of the station,he found Divya missing.

According to the police, the CCTV cameras installed at the railway station have captured the face of person who allegedly kidnapped Divya. However, the police are to achieve any breakthrough in the case.

The police had already announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for information about Parul and it has now been enhanced,a police official spokesperson said. Police have also released sketches of the accused, and raids are being conducted to nab him,he said.

To decide further course of action, village panchayats will meet in Chimnawas village on May 26.

Rewari school owner shot at outside temple by nephew, friend; absconding

A Rewari-based private school owner was allegedly shot at outside a temple in Ambedkar colony,Rewari,on Thursday morning. Rajender Saini was taken to Rewari civil hospital, after he sustained a bullet injury in his chest. He was later referred to a private hospital in Gurgaon in critical condition. Saini’s nephew Narbir and his friend Hariom, who allegedly opened fire, managed to flee the spot. Police said Narbir and Hariom, who were riding a motorbike, reached the spot and Narbir shot at Saini from a point blank range. Though a few people tried to nab the shooters, they reportedly fired two shots in the air and fled. Pankaj Nain,Superintendent of Police,Rewari, and other police officers reached the spot and initiated investigations. While inspecting the spot, police recovered cartridges of the bullets purportedly fired by the two shooters. Based on a complaint lodged by Saini’s son Hemant Saini,Rewari police registered a case against Narbir and Hariom. Raids are being conducted to nab the accused. Police also stated that Saini and his son Hemant were attacked by Narbir and two of his friends on April 25. However, both managed to escape unhurt. In wake of the murderous assault on Saini and his son,the Rewari police had given him a personal security officer, but the PSO was not with Saini on Thursday. Though the exact motive behind Narbir’s repeated attempts to kill Saini is not yet confirmed, but preliminary investigations indicate a property dispute between the two families.
