The Tripura government transferred seven teachers, including the headmistress of a government school, after a video — in which they were seen dancing to a Bollywood number — went viral.
The school education department issued the transfer order of all the female teachers on Wednesday, shunting them outside the West Tripura district.
The incident took place on June 8 when Khudiram Basu English Medium School — located on Central Jail Road in the heart of Agartala — was celebrating its foundation day.
“The video was all over — in local television news channels as well as social media sites. The government took strong exception to it and had ordered an inquiry.
We had issued showcause notices to the teachers. Following their replies it was found that it was a clear case of breach of discipline,” P K Goyal, director of school education, told The Indian Express from Agartala.
The teachers were issued a warning and transferred out, Goyal said. The seven vacancies are being filled by transferring teachers from other schools, he added. The seven teachers included headmistress Tapati Sarkar Dutta, with videos reportedly showing them dancing to some Bollywood numbers.
The video particularly irked state education minister Tapan Chakrabarty, who immediately asked Goyal to conduct an inquiry into the allegedly “cheap” dance performance of the school teachers.
