Three teens electrocuted, deaths spark protest in UP

Three teenagers were electrocuted at Daula village in Baghpat on Wednesday afternoon after an overhead electrical wire of 11000 volts snapped and fell into the pond where the trio were taking a bath, according to police. “The victims, all in their late teens, died on the spot,” an officer said.

“The accident took place around 2 pm. Five other animals which were also present inside the pond at that time died,” he said.

Following the mishap, the situation turned violent as the local residents staged a blockade by placing the bodies on the road, thereby triggering traffic jam.

“They took the bodies and kept them on the road. When police reached the spot to take control of the situation, one of the protesters threw a stone at a policeman that led to a clash. In the midst of this chaos, a circle officer was hit and had to be taken to a hospital immediately,” said J K Sahi, SP, Baghpat.
