Tattoo artist Paras Bhasin’s body found on tracks, family alleges honour killing

Mutilated body of Paras Bhasin was found near the railway tracks - head is still missing.

The mutilated body of a 23-year-old businessman, who was also a tattoo artist, was found near the railway tracks in East Delhi’s Ganesh Nagar area on Saturday evening. Police have not found the head.

Police said it could be a case of suicide, but the family members of Paras Bhasin, who was a resident of Subhash Nagar, alleged that it was “honour killing”.

The family said Bhasin’s body parts were strewn over a 500-metre area close to the railway tracks. His severed legs, hands and torso were lying several metres apart, suggesting murder rather than suicide, relatives said.

The body parts have been preserved at a hospital for autopsy. A police officer said: “A tattoo of his wife’s name on his hand helped identify the body. It appears to be a case of suicide. We are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the cause of death.”

Police said man was hit by a fast train, throwing the body parts all over the place.

The family contested the police story and alleged that Bhasin was murdered by his wife’s relatives because they were against the marriage. Bhasin family alleged that the body was dumped on the tracks to make it look like an accident.

The family said it received an anonymous call from an unknown number around 4.26 pm informing that Bhasin’s body was lying on the track. “We received around 18 calls within 25 minutes. The caller told us that he is a well-wisher and he wants us to save the trouble of any police case. He asked us to come and collect the body as soon as possible,” Bhasin’s sister Surabhi said.

“My brother’s phone was damaged. How did this unknown caller get my mother’s number. It proves that the murder was planned,” she alleged.

Surabhi said Bhasin married Sheela (name changed) after a six-year relationship on May 9 at an Arya Samaj temple against the wishes of her parents.

“Even after the secret wedding,Sheela used to live with her parents in Surya Nagar. She used to meet my brother secretly after work. She never came to stay with us. Our family was aware of the marriage,” she said.

“On Saturday,my brother called me around 1.30 pm. He was very upset and told me that he is going to meet a lawyer to get his wife’s custody,” Surabhi said.
