It was like coming to a birthday party without a gift. Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had nothing to give PAU on its 50th birthday celebrations, which kick-started here on Wednesday.

This comes in the wake of Sukhbir being criticised for donating Rs 1 crore to his school — Lawrence School at Sanawar in Himachal Pradesh — from government funds. All that Sukhbir did for PAU on Wednesday was ask Vice-Chancellor Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon “for a detailed proposal for bringing PAU to the next height.”

PAU has been reeling under financial crisis for close to a decade now. The situation has reached such a point that paying pensions and salaries to its employees has become a problem. Research and extension services have also been adversely affected. While proposals have been sent to the government and State Farmers Commission, there has been only a meager hike in PAU’s annual budget.

Rahul’s drug statement

Actually,Rahul Gandhi cannot see anything beyond the Congress leadership for he is never allowed to meet the common man. So,when he was making this statement,he was actually talking about 70 per cent of the state Congress leadership… I have been told that after the youth of Punjab,it is the media of Punjab who will be next on Rahul’s firing line. So be very careful,it is your turn now.
