District Collector Rajendra Kumar told reporters Tuesday that 826 items will go under the hammer — these include 465 gifts that Modi has received as Prime Minister.
The remaining 361 items being auctioned are those gifted to Chief Minister Anandi Patel.
Proceeds of the auction of Modi’s gifts will go to the Namami Gange (Clean Ganga) project. Money raised from Patel’s gifts will go for the education of the girl child.
Rajendra Kumar said: “This evening, we got information from Gandhinagar to hold the auction and exhibition… the suit with Narendra Modi monogrammed on it, which the Prime Minister wore at a meeting with US President Barack Obama, will also be displayed and auctioned.”
The words ‘Narendra Damodardas Modi’ have been monogrammed in a manner that makes it look a pinstripe suit. It was customised for him by Bipin Chauhan, designer and tailor and owner of a men’s apparel store.
The event at the Surat Science Centre will be inaugurated by Mayor Niranjan Zajmera.
