UP DGP Jagmohan Yadav Thursday directed all the IGs, DIGs and SPs to stop the illegal slaughter of milch animals, especially cows. He said incidents of cow slaughter were leading to disturbance of communal harmony and peace.
A police spokesperson said the DGP, in a circular, said the officers should conduct regular checks on slaughter houses to ensure illegal slaughter was not taking place there. He said an intelligence mechanism should also be developed to know if any illegal slaughter was taking place in a district. The spokesperson said after studying the information related to animal trafficking, the officers should identify the roads which witnessed maximum animal trafficking.
Yadav directed the details of animal traffickers be noted in village crime notebooks and history-sheets of repeat offenders be opened.
Giving directions for strict action against those involved in cow slaughter and animal trafficking, the DGP said police officers should inspect local animal markets and collect all details about local traders who buy and sell animals. He said officers should also identify government or private shelters for the animals rescued during anti-slaughter campaigns.
